Weekend Happenings

Good Friday morning!

The Gallery Pic is of Copper. Plain and simple. Just Copper. While Roxie was taking her "View From the Driveway" pic yesterday, she snapped a few extra of the pup, and she actually got a few good shots. Not the easiest thing to do!

AUSTIN UPDATE - It's been awhile since I gave an Austin Update. The Boy is doing well. He is still at Jacksonville. He is still a Southerner. He is still doing a weekly spot on the Kevin James radio show out of Los Angeles. He still HATES Sociology and Psychology. (I think it's pretty safe to say he will not be changing his major to pursue one of those subjects.)

He has made several new Christian friends this year, and we were looking forward to a weekend visit from one of them a couple of weeks from now. However, an opportunity to play in the PEP Band for the JSU/Tennessee game arose (FREE), and both of the guys (Austin and friend) jumped on board with that plan... which means more food for us!

Austin will begin his own sports radio talk show this Spring on campus. He has the 9:00 to 11:00 time slot on a weeknight (I forget which one), and he is beyond excited about this opportunity.

As we pray for direction for his life, doors continue to open in the "communications" world and close in other areas (Sociology and Psychology to name two).

His Spring semester is pretty packed, but he was able to get all of his classes Monday through Thursday which will free him up Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Since we only get to see him one day a week (for the most part), we are all looking forward to the new schedule.

He is still looking forward to his trip to England with the Southerners NEXT January. As of now, the Southerners will be the first act/band/entertainment in the parade honoring the Queen's 60th year on the throne. (As you can tell, I don't know the correct terminology for parade participants.) He will also get to stay an entire week in England. Very exciting!

I know this sounds like the "happy" Christmas card letter, so here are some "real" additions.

This has has been a year of minor injuries for Austin. He TOTALLY messed up his pinky in a pick-up football game before band practice one night. It still doesn't bend well, and considering the top part of his pinky was knocked completely off the bottom part of his pinky, I think he's doing pretty well.

He had a violent encounter with a lamppost a couple of weeks ago playing Ultimate Frisbee. We thought we were going to have dip into the scholarship fund to have the lamppost repaired or replaced, but as of today, it is still standing... barely. Austin is still having the occasional headache from the impact, but things are getting better.

His favorite phrase for the semester has been, "I HATE SOCIOLOGY." We hear this often, and we have learned to tune it out. Or as Roxie likes to say, "Man up, Austin! Everyone has a subject they don't like!" Is she going to be a great mom one day, or what?

Because of JSU's fantastic football record this year, play-offs are looming and the season is going to last much longer than last year. Austin is loving this. Me... not so much. But the possibility of him getting to travel with the Southerners a little more is always a plus.

Although we are now accustom to Austin being away from home the majority of the week, it still feels "funny," but homecomings are that much sweeter.

He's doing very well, but I miss him. Always have, and always will.

Weekend Happenings

Once again, we have a "hither and yon" kind of weekend planned.

Depending on a new job opportunity which has come up, Josh may have plans this evening with friends. We have to wait and see, and I'll have more details about this subject next week!

Roxie has a basketball game tonight. We're looking for a big win (hopefully), but win or lose, it's always fun to watch. Of course, it is MUCH more fun when we win. I don't want you to think I am one of those moms who think, "It's not whether you win or lose. It's how you play the game." Nope! It's ALL about the WIN! (Just kidding... a little.)

Roxie is going to the Alabama game tomorrow with a friend. Although she is excited, we couldn't make ourselves buy Alabama-friendly clothing, so we settled on two shades of gray (shirt and scarf) and some red stud earrings. No orange will be worn. (But while we were looking for Bama-appropriate clothing, we were a little surprised at exactly how much orange we do have in this house. We have A LOT!)

At least one of us (maybe two) will be attending the JSU game. Depending on Josh's work schedule, he'll be supporting Auburn here at Faulkner Farms (circa 1842).

It appears football is our life at the moment, doesn't it? And we are supporting EVERYONE!

Sunday, the Faulkner Five are going to enjoy a big Sunday dinner together after church... and the rest is open for discussion.
