Weekend Happenings

Good Friday morning!

The first Gallery Pic pretty much says it all. We didn't wake up with white stuff swirling around our house this morning. Actually, the kids haven't woken up at all. School was cancelled last night... because of the massive amount of snow we were going to have first thing this morning... that didn't come... again.

And I've added a picture of a little something I picked up on our date last night at Books-A-Million for just $1. (It was on sale.) Can you believe it? A jelly bean pooping polar bear... for only $1! Our family is starting a new tradition next Christmas. We are buying one $1 gift for each person in our family (12 people,) and we will put the gifts in their stockings (kept at my Mom's house). We'll open these fun stockings when we celebrate at my Mom's Christmas afternoon. This was an idea shared with A Simple Life by Robin Oakley last December, and I've been having a good time looking for the perfect $1 item to go in everyone's stocking.

The jelly bean pooping polar bear is a gift for my brother-in-law, Tommy. I just hope he puts as much thought into my gift as I did for this little gem!

RANDOMNESS - I know I said I was going to stop talking about TV shows, but Survivor was EXCELLENT last night. Heroes vs. Villains. Everyone in the Faulkner Five picked their favorite good guy and favorite bad guy to win. I chose Boston Rob as my Villain, and when they showed the previews for next week, he was passed out in the jungle and non-responsive to the medical team. Needless to say, I am very upset. (Another reason I'll never be on Survivor... I don't know if they have a heart defibrillator in the jungle. That would be a deal breaker for me.)

CHUCK NORRIS - Who knew when watching Walker, Texas Ranger years ago Chuck Norris was going to become SO marketable? Calendars, posters, books, etc. He's everywhere.

Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.

Chuck Norris does not use spell check. His spelling checks itself.

When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Chuck Norris. (Don't we all?)

Weekend Happenings

Things are in a constant state of change at the moment. I've prepared a little Weekend Timeline to make it easier to check off what does and does not happen at the Faulkner household this weekend.

FRIDAY

8:00 - 3:00 - School for Josh and Roxie... Uh, no.

8:00 - 2:00 - School for Austin... The 8:00 class is still on, but we're waiting to hear about the 12:30 class.

4:30 - Austin leaves for Knoxville to chaperone 7th grade boys on Mission Trip... This one is up in the air. He has to be back at school Monday morning, so he may or may not have a ride home Sunday afternoon. (The rest of the kids are coming back Monday, but Austin has to come home early for school.)

7:30 - 8:30 - School dance for Roxie and friends... Not happening. Because of the snow, you know.

6:30 - 9:30 - Mike and Josh (and now perhaps Austin) attend Car Show... This could still happen. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is the only Friday event which will go off without a hitch.

SATURDAY

10:00 - Celebrating Mr. Faulkner's birthday in Oxford... I'm going to go out on a limb and say we'll be attending! I need a "Matthew fix." (My great-nephew.)

SUNDAY

8:00 - 11:00 - Attending church and Sunday School. Surely, we'll be able to dig out of our igloo by then!

2:00 - 4:00 - Celebrating my nephew's 12th birthday in Trussville.

6:00 - Bible classes cancelled for all the kids because of Knoxville Mission Trip.

6:00 - Faulkner Family Valentine's Day Banquet (with tons of pink food). Zac will be in attendance because we're one of his "12 Days of Zac" and he's spending the night.

MONDAY

6:45 - Austin leaves for JSU. (Extreme Monday sadness. This is nothing new. It is now my "normal.")

8:00 - Nothing! No school because of President's Day. (Oh. Mikie has to go to work, too.)

2:00 - 4:00 - Roxie, Josh and I take Zac to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians (at local theaters near you).

Pretty impressive plans, huh. I told you I had come out of retirement. I told you it was going to start getting a little busier around here. I just had no idea a blizzard was going to thwart some of my plans. (Did you like that word "thwart?" Could you tell I was in a bookstore for over an hour last night? It just makes you feel smarter... like going to the library to look at magazines.)

Have a great Valentine's Day Weekend! Make the most of your time with family and friends. Even though I've used it on A Simple Life before, I'll leave you with one of Roxie's favorite quotes. "It's not the amount of breaths you take... It's the amount of moments that take your breath away!" I hope you have a moment or two like that this weekend.
