Weekend Happenings

Good Friday morning!

The Gallery Pic this morning is of Roxie with her "pageant hair." It will be a little fluffier Saturday evening, but this is the general "do." Curly or straight? Curly or straight? It was the question that haunted us for weeks. (I'll believe it is going to stay curly when we leave the beauty shop Saturday afternoon... and not before!)

If I could, I would take a picture of my first ever toothache. My tooth cracked around a 40 year-old filling. I want to have it removed... tooth, filling, pain and throbbing, but I have a feeling they are going to want to "fix" it. My dentist warned me this day was coming a couple of years ago. He told me fillings were only meant to last about 40 years or so. "What?"

"Well, actually that's a pretty long time," he defended himself and dentists everywhere.

"That's only a long time when you're an eight year-old girl. Not when you're a 48 year-old woman!" I grumbled.

Since he isn't 40 yet (I'm not sure he's even 25), he doesn't really get it.

So today, I will be sitting in my dentist's office all morning hoping he can "squeeze me in" to "take a look-see." Who talks like that? Well, besides me.

I'm hoping this toothache of mine will enable me to try some new meds over the weekend. (That's just me trying to be a "glass half full" person again. Always looking for a silver lining!)

CONTEST! CONTEST! CONTEST! After much thought, I have decided the Contest winners celebrating my 300th post of A Simple Life will be awarded their very own Mystery Bag Party. That's right! We had such a good time in October, I have decided to have another Mystery Bag Party in January... and the six women who will accompany me on this "journey" will be selected from the women who enter the contest.

I will draw SIX NAMES December 18... the day of my 300th post. You have a little over a month to enter. It will be a very fun party! Holiday Organization Tips - Day 4

The only tip I have for today is simply to remember why we celebrate Christmas in the first place. I love all the "stuff" that comes with Christmas. I really, really do. But I think when we focus more on the "stuff" instead of the real reason... Well, that's when things get stressful.

"And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register, along with Mary who was engaged to him, and was with child. And it came about that while they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her first-born son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." Luke 2:4-7. It isn't just a story in a book. It really happened.

I'm going to end this section with a song I posted a few days ago... "Turn you eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace." I have trouble remembering that. I always have. But I'm going to keep trying.

Teacher's Gifts

7. I have one more gift suggestion for this week. I knew a woman who baked two Quiche Lorraines and a dessert for her child's teacher. She would deliver them late in the day, and all the teacher had to supply at home was salad and tea. Having been a teacher herself, she realized how nice it was to have dinner ready and waiting when you arrived home. This would be especially welcome during the hectic Christmas season. A fairly inexpensive gift, but oh, so nice!

Weekend Happenings

Friday night is WIDE OPEN! I love saying that. WIDE OPEN! There. I said it again. I don't know what we'll do. It will just be four of us, but I'm hoping for something like a Faulkner Family Game Night. We'll see what happens.

Saturday is Pageant Day! Roxie will have her hair done at 1:00, her make-up done at 2:30 and she must be dressed and ready to go at 4:00. The Pageant starts at 6:00.

Mike and Josh are going to JSU for the football game, but they should be back in plenty of time (along with Austin) to see the Pageant. At the end, Austin, Josh and Mike will RUN home to watch the Auburn game in its entirety thanks to TiVo or DiVo or whatever you call it. (I miss my VCR. I actually knew how to operate that little piece of machinery.)

I think Sunday is an open day, too. See how well I'm doing. I'm not planning every minute of every day. I think my throbbing toothache is having a positive effect on me. (Code for I CAN'T CONCENTRATE ON ANYTHING BUT THE PAIN IN MY MOUTH, AND I HOPE I GET SOME GOOD MEDS TODAY!)
