A-Day Game Date

Good Thursday morning!

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING!
Argo Drive-In has changed the movie for this weekend from Monsters and Aliens (Rated G) to Fast and Furious (Rated PG-13). When I called Wednesday, it was Monsters and Aliens. (Rule of Thumb... Always, always call the Drive-In before you head to Argo. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes if they get a new movie in, they will change it in the middle of the week. I'm sorry for the misinformation!)

We started the day off with Caramel Soaked French Toast. Is there a better way to start a day? I think not! Good stuff.

I've decided to add a new section to my Thursday post. Along with the Date of the Week, there will now be a section listing things happening in our area over the weekend that might be fun for you and your family to try. Sometimes the list may be short and sweet, but sometimes it may have several things to choose from in and around our area. I've decided to call it Weekend Family Fun, and I will list anything and everything I'm aware of for the upcoming weekend. So, if you know of anything special going on, drop me an e-mail or comment, and I'll be sure to add the info.

Weekend Family Fun

Magnolia Festival - This Festival is being held at the Gardendale Civic Center on Saturday, April 18. There will be a cookie eating contest, a Pooch Parade, rides and attractions and live entertainment (Back in Time, Cool Reign, Town & Country Cloggers, Christian recording artists April Cover and Jason Gray, and much, much more.) Fun for a date or fun for the whole family. You decide.

Argo Drive-In - This weekend, they are showing a double feature... Monsters and Aliens (Rated G) and Mall Cop (Rated PG). I've seen both movies, and they are very good. The cost is $10 per carload ($5 on Sunday night) and the first feature starts around 7:15. If you've never been before, show up around 6:45. (These movies are being held over for another week, so it shouldn't be very crowded.) You are free to take your own food and beverages, but they also have a concession stand with any snacks you may want to purchase. If you need directions, you can call 467-3434.

Dollar Movie (Hoover) - This weekend they are showing Hotel for Dogs, Mall Cop and Bedtime Stories. All movies are a dollar and you can get their schedule by calling 822-5187 (Carmike 10 Theater). Concessions are regular price.

Okay. I won't make you wait any longer. My "B" word is BELIEVE. Again, this has been pretty easy. Once you start, they just keep coming!

1. I BELIEVE beagles are the sweetest dogs on the face of the planet. (I know "momofboys" is shaking her head adamantly disagreeing with me right now... so I'll change my wording a little.) I BELIEVE my beagles are the sweetest dogs on the face of the planet.

2. I BELIEVE people who say they enjoy the wisdom they gain by getting older don't really mean it. I BELIEVE they would rather be young and dumb.

3. I firmly BELIEVE the day after a warranty expires, whatever the warranty covered will blow up. No one can convince me otherwise. It's happened too many times.

4. I BELIEVE when you have three kids (and no hired help) it is impossible to have a clean house, clean basement, clean yard and clean vehicles (and all the laundry caught up) on the same exact day.

5. I BELIEVE if and when that ever happens, I will not be able to enjoy it because I will be almost dead from having "made it happen."

6. I BELIEVE people with "high metabolisms" (a/k/a abundance of energy) should just hang out with other people with "high metabolisms." (They kind of get on my nerves.)

7. I BELIEVE the best way to teach children compassion is to show compassion.

8. I also BELIEVE this applies to faithfulness, empathy and kindness.

9. I BELIEVE the person who coined the phrase "Boys will be boys" should be severely punished for giving parents an acceptable social excuse for what used to be known as "bad behavior."

10. I BELIEVE polar bears are the most entertaining and beautiful of all bears.

11. That said, I BELIEVE Winnie-the-Pooh would not have withstood the test of time if he had been a "polar bear." (Just a thought. Not a very deep one, but a thought nonetheless.)

12. I BELIEVE being involved in sports does NOT build character. I BELIEVE it reveals character (in coaches AND players). (I read that once, and it just hit the nail on the head in my opinion.)

13. I BELIEVE whatever I go through in life, good or bad, God is right beside me. Hebrews 13:5.

14. I BELIEVE I am finished now!

A-Day Game Date

This Saturday will be the University of Alabama AND Auburn University's A-Day Games. This would be a great date for a dad and football lovin' son. The tickets are FREE. People tailgate just like a real game. You will get to watch a scrimmage, and booths are set up as they are during the season.

You can plan on having lunch and watching the game, or watch the game and then have dinner. It's up to you and your special guy. There is a lot of time for talking, walking and listening. You'll be making a great memory, and if all goes well, you can also plan on doing it annually.
