End of the School Year Celebration

Good Wednesday morning!

The Gallery Pics are from Roxie's final band concert which was performed last night. Roxie will no longer be participating in the band program. She's been playing the saxophone for two years now, and although she's pretty good (if I do say so myself), her passions lie elsewhere... volleyball and basketball. And that's okay. She gave it a very good try, but for now, she knows where she's supposed to be.

I've been to many, many concerts over the years (and with Austin still plugging along at JSU, I'm not quite finished yet), but last night was a little bittersweet to say the least.

End of the School Year Celebration

Take a little time and start a new tradition beginning this year. Plan a fun, easy get-together to celebrate the end of another school year with a few of your child's close friends. Set the date for one of the first days the kids are officially out of school. Once you've selected the date and time, decide on the "celebration."

It can be different each year, OR it can be the same. Here are some ideas to get you started.

1. If you have access to a pool, have the summer's first pool party. Serve snacks, have a luau theme, plan a few pool games, etc.

2. All of the summer movies are starting to make an appearance. Pick an appropriate movie and take the kids to a fun restaurant for lunch before heading to the theater.

3. Check the drive-in. If there is an appropriate movie showing, make crock-pot hot dogs and tailgate an hour before the show begins. Take Frisbees and Nerf footballs if you're planning this celebration for boys.

4. If you have boys (any age), plan an afternoon flag football game with snacks served during the middle or at the end of the game.

5. If you have girls (any age), take a group to Yogurt Mountain before going on a shopping spree at The Summit (or Brookwood Mall if the weather is rainy).

6. Plan a backyard camp out. Set up the tent, grill hamburgers and hot dogs, show a movie on the back deck (move the TV outside). Star Wars and Jurassic Park are great outside movies!

It can be as easy or as elaborate as you want to make it, but it can also be a tradition that lasts 12 or 13 years. It's a great way to "kick off" the summer season!
